About Todd

This pretty much sums up C. Todd Slade…

  • Facts:
    • Born in November 1977 in Athens, Ga.
    • Moved to Rome, Ga in 1978 which is where I grew up. So Rome is home.
    • Passions:
      • a desire to make Jesus known.
      • family (more on them below).
      • college football.
      • reading/studying theology and religion.
      • endorsed by NAMB as a military chaplain.
    • I was in the Opening Ceremonies of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Ga.
    • I was on an episode of “Wheel of Fortune” with my sister.
  • Salvation and Call to Ministry:
    • I was saved at the ripe old age of 22. I had made several “decisions” before this time but God did not really come alive to me until then. For the first time in my life, during a Bible study at my home church, I understood the gospel. God called me to himself and I understood the transaction that had taken place on my behalf. God had taken my feet off of the path that leads to destruction and planted my feet on the path that leads to life eternal (Matt 7). I repented of my sin and became a child of the King.
    • A few years after being saved, God called me into full-time vocational ministry during a Sunday evening worship service. It frightened me to the core when I sensed God calling me to ministry. However after much counsel and Godly advice, our heavenly father lead me to Ephesians 4:11-16 which now serves as my life verse and my call to ministry. I willingly surrendered my life to full-time vocational ministry in 2002.
  • Married Jennifer Lynn Scarborough in August 2004:
    • Jennifer is a tremendous blessing to me and encourages me in my daily walk with Christ.
    • Proverbs 31 woman for sure.
    • The saying “out-punted my coverage” is definitely true. She’s a great wife, but an even better mama!
  • 5 children:
    • Jeremiah Elijah
    • Joshua Daniel
      • and interesting note here is that Jennifer and I were able to adopt Jeremiah and Joshua on the same day (June 15, 2011). We love to tell our adoption story so please do not hesitate to ask.
    • Jonathan Samuel
    • Phoebe Elizabeth
    • Judah Benjamin
  • Missions Experience:
    • Brazil 2 times
      • It was on a trip to Brazil in 2009 that God changed my heart about international missions. God gave me a heart for the nations and I have tried to honor him and go as much as I could since the 1st time I stepped foot in Brazil.
    • Guyana
      • This trip gave me a vision for discipleship. The missionary we were working with in Guyana had been discipling young men for 30 years. At least 20 young men he had discipled, were now leading churches this missionary had planted all across the area. It was amazing to see discipleship come to life on that trip.
    • Far East 2 times
      • The trips East were eye opening as I was exposed to things I had never seen before. When you have brothers and sisters in Christ ripping posters off of the wall to cover up the Bibles they had received as gifts, it’ll do something to your heart. Those brothers and sisters loved the Lord even though their life was in danger just for being a Christian.
    • Countless local, statewide, and national mission trips.
      • I have been to Montgomery, Al; Atlanta, Ga; Buffalo, NY; Old Fields, WV; Ocean Springs, MS (Hurricane Katrina cleanup and rebuild) just to name a few.
    •  God has allowed me the opportunity to be his witness in many places. My prayer is that He gives me ample more opportunities to go as the work is far from complete.
  • Discipleship:
    • From 2009 to 2014 God really drove the importance of discipleship into my heart. I began discipling a group of young men at 5:30 AM at our local Chick-FIl-A. I had no idea what God would do in our hearts over the next 5 years. I am thankful for those guys and for the opportunity to serve them. I pray for each of them by name almost daily as they are still near and dear to my heart.
  • Additional information:
    • I was in seminary at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. This was purely God’s providence. After moving some 6 or 7 times in the 4 months following Katrina, God landed us in Louisville, Ky at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. It was there that God lit a fire in me to study and know theology.
  • God led me to pursue a full-time pastorate in 2013.
    • In 2013 while serving as the student pastor at Second Baptist Church in Griffin, Ga, God began drawing my heart to the pastorate. I love to teach and preach. I have a deep abiding passion to see the church develop a love for God’s word. Once God’s children fall in love with His word, they begin to live out what God’s word commands.
    • While serving as the Headmaster at Crossroads Church in Dunwoody, God taught me much about myself. I’ve always been called a natural leader who is not afraid of conflict. While serving as Headmaster, God taught me the importance of gathering facts before jumping to conclusions and there is always a right way and a wrong way to handle situations. If you are not sure what the correct way is, seek out council and wisdom before jumping in over your head. I’m thankful for God’s continued leading in my life and for his continued lessons on humility.
    • In 2017 God led me to a sweet church in Moreland, Ga, FBC Moreland. I have had the privilege to be their pastor now for several years and I have fallen more in love with this fellowship as each day passes. 2020 has been a very difficult year for all of us but God has been faithful. The passage of scripture God laid on my heart for this year is Romans 8:28-30; “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. (ESV)” While we want this passage to be an earthly promise it is not. It is an eternal promise. And while we may never know all the ramifications of a global pandemic, we know that God allowed it for our good. He’s using it to form us into the image of his son! It’s been a very hard year but God is faithful! And He continues to bless us and see us through even though we do not deserve it.
